Louis' story...

LouisOn 8th November 2008, I ‘Officially’ became a Christian.  For almost 4-5 years prior to this, the Lord had been calling me but I was scared to hear his voice.  ‘I’m not worthy of Your Love, Lord’ I would say.

As a child I attended Sunday school at the Baptist Church in Broomfield, and then Christ Church in Herne Bay when we moved in 1976.  I was a member of the Church youth group called ‘Discoverers’ & went on to sing in the church choir until I was 12, when I moved to France for 2 years in 1981.  Upon returning to Herne Bay in 1983 I went back to my old school, Archbishops in Canterbury but had by this time started to move away from God (in hindsight it was probably due to having moved around so much).  I left school in November 1986 & instantly moved to London to work & enjoy myself!

Having spent over 20 years living a ‘varied & full life’ in London I started to think ‘there must be more to life than this?’  My life was going nowhere.  I was drinking too much, taking drugs, sleeping around, without a care for anyone except myself – all of which just left me feeling ‘empty’!

In November 2004 I was at home in Hayes (Middx/West London) & these ‘empty’ thoughts were just continually running round my head & to switch my focus I turned on the TV & started to flick through the channels.  I came to BBC1, which had some rock/pop music playing but the lyrics were praising GOD!  It was ‘Songs of Praise’ but not as I knew it!  I sat down & started to watch.  Then I saw a face singing in the Church Choir that I recognised - a friend from my time at drama school.  ‘This is a sign’ I thought & the next week I went along to the church, which was Hillsong in London.

I was given a copy of the New Believers Bible (the New Testament with notes & guidance) & went home & started to read it.  Slowly but surely the words started to have an impact on me.  They seemed to leap off the pages straight into my heart.  I cried, begged for forgiveness & started on the long path to find Christ, my Saviour; Our Saviour.

I moved back to Herne Bay in November 2007, still on my path to finding Christ but leaving behind me a life I never wanted to return to.  In October 2008 I saw The Alpha Course sign outside The Beacon Church & thought ‘I like the look of this church & I NEED to do this course!’  So I called them & started to attend (albeit I got ‘stage fright’ the 1st night & didn’t go to that one!).  It was to prove to be the BEST decision in my life to date.

I now have new friends & ‘family’, where I can discuss the feelings/thoughts that have been with me all my life.  I have felt HIS presence within Beacon & have finally found a place I can call ‘Home’.

Word of the day & everyday is: HALLELUJAH, not just because of its meaning but try saying say it without a smile upon your face!  HALLELUJAH!

The rest is History as they say… HIS STORY!
